چکیده

We present a 3D numerical model of the heart ventricles which couples electrical and biomechanical activities. We have adopted a simpler formulation of previously published models to achieve a trade-off between biological accuracy and computational efficiency. To carry out computations, the FitzHugh-Nagumo equations are solved along with a constitutive law based on the Hill-Maxwell rheological law. Ultimately, the parameters of this generic model will be adjusted from the actual patient’s ECG and from the cardiac motion measured in 4D cardiac images. By including biological and physical a priori knowledge, we expect to extract quantitative ventricular function parameters from time sequences of cardiac images1.

Report on PhD thesis of Maxime Sermesant

Cardiac imaging has improved dramatically in the last few years. Ultrasound has increased in frame rate and resolution, and 3D imaging has been introduced. Cardiac MR has become a proven research tool and is sufficiently robust and reliable to be entering routine clinical use, and cardiac CT is beginning to show great potential. This progress in image acquisition provides ever increasing amount...

Prediction of long-term cardiac events by 123I-MIBG imaging after acute myocardial infarction and reperfusion therapy

Objective(s): In heart failure, the heart-to-mediastinum (H/M) ratio of the delayed image and washout rate (WR) are well-known as a powerful cardiac event predictors. H/M ratio quantifies the accumulation rate of MIBG in the myocardium and WR quantifies reduction of meta-iodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) accumulation in the heart from the early planar image to the delayed pla...

O12: The Heart and the Brain: Stroke Induced Heart Damage

Cardiac diseases are common post-stroke and are associated with increased morbidity and mortality. One possible mechanism of acute cardiac injury is the neurogenic myocardial damage, where the cerebral injury is disturbing the normal sympathetic and parasympathetic neuronal outflow to the heart leading to cardiac damage including myocardial infarctions. The exact mechanism is not completely und...

Towards an interactive electromechanical model of the heart.

In this work, we develop an interactive framework for rehearsal of and training in cardiac catheter ablation, and for planning cardiac resynchronization therapy. To this end, an interactive and real-time electrophysiology model of the heart is developed to fit patient-specific data. The proposed interactive framework relies on two main contributions. First, an efficient implementation of cardia...

Personalization of a cardiac electromechanical model using reduced order unscented Kalman filtering from regional volumes

Patient-specific cardiac modeling can help in understanding pathophysiology and therapy planning. However it requires to combine functional and anatomical data in order to build accurate models and to personalize the model geometry, kinematics, electrophysiology and mechanics. Personalizing the electromechanical coupling from medical images is a challenging task. We use the Bestel-Clément-Sorin...
